Spanish Baseball League loses another team

Posted on January 23, 2008 by philipp

After the fusion of the CD Irabia, CD Arga and CD Amaya to the new club Reyno of Navarra, the Spanish baseball league will lose another team and will start the season with nine teams. Due to new rules Hercules L’Hospitalet cannot participate in the upcoming championship. They do not have a grass surface in their ballpark and will be prohibited to compete on the highest level.

The promising right-handed pitcher Jorge BALBOA is the first player, who will leave the team. The 21-year-old will sign with the FC Barcelona. He had a 5-3 record with an ERA of 4.29 in 13 games for Hercules last season. He also was a member of the national team at the Baseball World Cup in Taiwan. He allowed three runs in 5.2 innings pitched, striking out three (three walks).
