Solingen Alligators appoint new head coach

Posted on January 5, 2008 by philipp

The winner of the northern conference of the German Baseball-Bundesliga, Solingen Alligators, announced on Friday a coaching change. Zeke MITCHEM will leave the team after just one year, to work as an assistant coach at the Georgia College. Fellow American Craig SPILKER will replace him.

SPILKER is from Lincoln, Nebraska. He worked in 2007 as an assistant coach (responsible for pitching and outfield) at Nebraska Weselyan and as head coach of the Lincoln Polecats (summer league team). In his playing career he pitched for the Saint Mary College in Kansas City and in Oxnard, California.

General Manager Peter KRUEGER and assistant coach Dieter DAHMANN, who played in his career for the farm team of the Alligators, the Cologne Dodgers and in the Netherlands, will support him.

Solingen won the German championship in 2006, but was eliminated by the new champion Mainz Athletics in the semi-finals last September.
