Viladecans won a 7-6 nine-inning thriller over Antorcha in Game 4 to capture the championship of the Spanish Softball League.
Antorcha entered the final game with only three runs – a 3-2 win in Game 2 – in the entire series but erased a 1-0 Viladecans lead with a three-run third inning. Antorcha held a 3-1 lead in the final ining and needed only three outs to force a Game 5 before Viladecans rallied to tie the score at 3-3.
Top hitter Noelia FLORES (.419) and Antorcha scored twice in the eight inning for a short-lived 5-3 lead before Viladecans and their talented leadoff hitter and national team standout Jessica IBORRA responded with a pair of runs to knot the game at 5-5.
Antorcha grabbed a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth only to watch Viladecans score a pair of runs for the third straight inning to claim the win and the league title.
Sara MUNOZ and Teresa SAN JUAN, a pair of national team stalwarts, also enjoyed superb seasons. MUNOZ hit .500 (31-for-62) with 21 runs, six doubles, three triples, and a home run while SAN JUAN was 31-for-68 (.456) with 31 runs, four doubles, and five triples.
Antorcha title run was also led by Raquel SUAREZ who hit .473 (26-for-55) with 17 runs and nine doubles. National team player Macarena MARTINEZ hit .343 (23-for-67) and scored 23 runs.
IAE OBB (11-9) finished in third place while Dridma Rivas (8-12) earned the fourth slot. Hercules and AT Sebastian (2-18) ended the season in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
