Softball Season in Spain has started

Posted on March 25, 2010 by philipp

Last weekend the Division de Honor Softball in Spain opened its gates for the 2010 season. Five teams will battle for the crown this year. Defending champion CBS Antorcha will remain the favorite.

Week 1:

CS Viladecans – Eguzki Kirolgi OBB 15-13, 4-13 (5)

Viladecans saw a wild opening doubleheader between the home team and Kirolgi. In game one CS used a five-run bottom of the sixth to pick up a 15-13 win. Shannon Burke highlighted the rally with a bases clearing double. Teresa San Juan went 3-for-3 with a homerun, four runs scored and five RBI. OBB’s Ainara Larraza also went deep and drove in three.

In the second part of the twin bill Eguzki Kirolgi scored in each of the five frames en route to an easy 13-4 win. Larraza again collected three RBI. Aurora Macazaga scored three times.

CBS Antorcha – Krafft San Sebastian 7-0 (5), 3-1

While offense dominated in the other doubleheader, pitching was crucial in the second one. CBS Antorcha shut out San Sebastian 7-0 in game one thanks to a three-hit complete game shutout by Rosa Maria Blanes. The team from Valencia blew things wide open in the third with a five-run rally. The Krafft defense helped a little, as all seven runs allowed by starter Laura Gonzalez were unearned.

In the second match Antorcha again started fast and took an early 3-0 lead through three frames. But San Sebastian kept the deficit small and reduced it to two runs in the top of the sixth. Nevertheless in the end they had to settle for a 1-3 loss. Iraides Saiz threw four no-hit, two-walk innings for the win. On the opposing side Eder Novo issued four hits, three runs (1 ER) and a walk in six innings.
