The Mannheim Tornadoes (28-0) completed the German Softball League regular season unbeaten with two wins against Deggendorf, 22-1 and 9-2. The defending German champions will meet the Darmstadt Rockets (12-16) in the first round of the South Division playoffs. The Tornadoes are led by Christine BRUCKNER (.516), Alexandra MISELES (.500), Simone GUNST (.491), and Friderike MEINCK (29 RBI’s).
The Freising Grizzlies (19-9) and the Haar Disciples (19-9) will battle each other in the first round of the South Division playoffs. The Grizzlies took two close games from Dreieich (6-22) this past weekend, 7-3 and 16-14, while the Disciples swept Darmstadt, 8-7 and 8-2.
In other South Division softball action, Herrenberg (11-17) narrowly missed the playoffs after capturing a pair of wins over Karlsruhe (9-19). The 6-0 and 4-3 wins last weekend gave Herrenberg four wins in their last six games.
The Hamburg Knights (21-6) have claimed the top prize in the North Division and dropped a nailbiter to Cologne, 6-5, before getting back on the winning track in the second game, 9-1. The Knights still have one game left against Wesseling before starting the playoffs.
Wesseling (17-8) swept Hilden 17-13 and 9-2 last weekend and has three games remaining which have huge playoff implications. Three wins over Hamburg (1) and Cologne (2) would give Wesseling a share of second place and a meeting with Brauweiler in semi-final playoff action. A pair of wins would force a tie for third place with Neunkirchen (19-9). Brauweiler (20-8) ended the regular season with two wins over Cologne, 11-2 and 11-4, a week after splitting a pair of games with division-leading Hamburg, 6-3 and 2-9. Brauweiler will face either Wesseling or Neunkirchen in the first round of the North Division playoffs. Neunkirchen split with Strausberg (9-19) this past Saturday, 5-6 and 7-0, and missed an opportunity for a share of second place.
