Softball B-Pool Cup Winners Tournament in Athens

The European Cup Winners Cup Women “B” Softball Tournament is being held from September 3-8 in Athens, Greece. This fast-pitch softball tourney features teams which finished second in their respective leagues in 2006.

Teams competing includes Evryali Glyfadas (Greece), Paris Bats (France), Sofia Athletics (Bulgaria), Therwil Flyers (Switzerland), Novi Zagreb Lady Pirates (Croatia), and the Odense Giants (Denmark). Two teams, Bratislava Spiders (Slovakia) and Batajnica Juniori (Serbia) did not make the trip.

In the opening round of games, Paris defeated Odense 8-1 while Therwil bombarded Novi Zagreb 16-4. Elise CANIVET, Stephanie FOUQUET, and Laetitia PEERBOLTA lead the Bats while Christina OSTERGAARD, Wiebke JONAS, and Sanne ORSKOV are some of the top players for the Giants. The Flyers title run is paced by Babsi MEIERHANS and the MACK sisters – Jessica and Kelsey.

Novi Zagreb, which has already played three matches, fell 25-2 to Evryali Glyfadas before blanking the Sofia Athletics 9-0. Key players for the Lady Pirates are Ivana PEMPER, Maja ROZIC, and Dijana PETROVIC. The top players for Sofia includes Maya TRAYKOVA, Iva BAKALOV, and Boriana TEOFANOVA.
