Shane Salley, James Watts from Sölvesborg to Mainz

The German Baseball-Bundesliga club Mainz Athletics has signed Shane Salley and James Watts. Both have played together since their days at Milligan College. Last season they helped the Sölvesborg Firehawks to win the title in the Swedish Elitserien. Salley is a 25-year-old outfielder. He batted .372 in Sweden last summer and had an ERA of 2.39 in 40 innings. Watts is 26 years old and also has a Dutch passport. He is a right-handed pitcher, who had an ERA of 1.20 with 134 strikeouts in 90 innings for Sölvesborg. Mainz already had announced the signing of Daniel Wolfraum-Bonell, who is transferring from the relegated Bad Homburg Hornets. Last year’s imports Jeff Hunt, Riley Barr and Zach Johnson aren’t returning.
