Shairon Martis and Jair Jurrjens without Luck on Friday

Posted on June 6, 2009 by philipp

Starting pitcher Shairon Martis didn’t get rewarded on Friday night after good outing against the Mets. The young right-hander allowed just one run on three hits and four walks in five innings, but got left with a no-decision. He is till 5-1 for the season and lowered his ERA to 5.31. New York prevailed 3-1 in the tenth thanks to a two-run double by David Wright.

Jair Jurrjens didn’t receive any support of his offense and a solid start of seven innings led to his third loss of the season. He surrendered nine hits, four runs and three bb (one intentional), losing a pitcher’s duel against Yovany Gallardo and the Brewers. Jurrjens struck out eight. Top prospect Matt Gamel did the most damage against the right-hander, driving in three of the four runs on the day. His ERA now stands at 2.84.
