T&A San Marino

T&A San Marino has signed another pitcher for the upcoming season. Jose Escalona, who dominated the Serie A2 for Finproject Unione Picena last season, has agreed to play for the Italian Baseball League finalist of the last two years (champion in 2008). The 24-year-old left-hander is playing in Italy since 2008, when he was pitching for Macerata. For Picena he had a 10-2 record with an ERA of 1.24 in 13 starts, striking out a whopping 179 batters in 101 2/3 innings, walking 30. He also allowed just 49 hits all season. Escalona, who is from Venezuela, could get an Italian passport before the beginning of the season according to Baseball.it.

Montepaschi Grosseto

Montepaschi Grosseto also looks for reinforcement into the Serie A2. They have signed the 21-year-old infielder Alessandro Vaglio. The product of the Italian Baseball Academy in Tirrenia played for Bancaetruria Arezzo in 2009, batting .279 (OBP .364/SLG .423) with a triple, 13 doubles, 20 runs scored and 18 RBI in 26 starts. He was a teammate of Steve Weidner, who now is the head coach of Grosseto’s IBL opponent Godo Knights.
