Due to financial reasons the Serie A2 club LATINA BASEBALL has to sell its players. Three Italian Baseball League teams are profiting from it. FORTITUDO BOLOGNA, CARIPARMA and the promoted REGGIO EMILIA each signed one prospect for the 2009 season.
Reliever Alessandro Ularetti is going to BOLOGNA. The 19-year-old had a 1.12 ERA and a 3-0 record with seven saves in 17 games (one start) for LATINA BC in 2008. He struck out 62 (24 walks) in 48 innings. In 2007 he won the European Championship with the Italian Junior Team. Ularetti can also play shortstop and batted .341 (OBP .413/SLG .355) with 23 runs scored and 17 RBIs in 34 games.
CARIPARMA is acquiring Alex Sambucci. The first baseman is also 19 years old and was a member of the successful Italian Junior Team too. He had a batting average of .303 (.398/.521) with a team-leading eight homeruns, three triples, a double, 35 runs scored and 39 RBIs in 35 games.
Catcher Mattia Reginato is the third player leaving LATINA BASEBALL towards the Italian Baseball League. Like Ularetti and Sambucci he too won the Junior European Championship in 2007. The 18-year-old is joining REGGIO EMILIA. He batted .300 (.361/.471) with two homeruns, three triples, twelve doubles, ten stolen bases (in twelve attempts), 28 runs scored and 27 RBIs in 35 games. He also threw out 25 percent of potential base stealers (9-36).
