Recap on Baseball.ca
Hyun Jin Ryu (W 1-0) led South Korea to a 1-0 shutout against Canada. Ryu allowed just five hits and three walks in nine scoreless innings. He struck out six. Keun Woo Jeong was responsible for the lone run of the game with a solo homerun in the third.
The Canadians had their best chance to tie the game in the ninth, when they loaded the bases with two outs. But Ryan Radmanovich flied out to center field, leaving all three stranded. They also had runners on third in the sixth and eighth, but didn’t get them in. South Korea had three hits in the first three frames, but none after. Nonetheless their pitching sealed the win.
Mike Johnson (L 0-1) allowed three hits, a run and four base on balls in six innings.
