Rouen Huskies qualify for Finals, now tied in First

Posted on September 22, 2008 by philipp

The ROUEN HUSKIES swept their doubleheader at the MONTPELLIER BARRACUDAS and clinched their berth for the French Finals. They also moved into a tie for first place in the Elite League playoff standings, as the TEMPLIERS SENART lost twice in SAVIGNY. Two more game days are left in the semi-final round robin in the Elite League before the start of the championship series.

Montpellier Barracudas – Rouen Huskies 2-7, 3-17

ROU 003 011 200  7 11 1
MUC 000 000 101  2  5 2

ROU 136 131 2  17 18 1
MUC 000 300 0   3  6 2

In game one ROUEN took a 3-0 lead in the third en route to a 7-2 win against the BARRACUDAS, which also meant that they clinched the spot in the finals. They capitalized from an error to score the first two runs. Boris Marche drove in the third. Flavien Peron, Kenji Hagiwara (2 RBI) and Nicolas Dubaut followed with RBIs later on. Keino Perez pitched seven solid innings for the win. Dubaut and Hagiwara made their season debuts on the mound in the eighth and ninth. Laurent Andrade took the loss for MONTPELLIER, which played without several of their key players this day.

If the home team thought ROUEN might switch into celebratory mode in the second match they got disappointed. The offense of the reigning French champion scored in each of the seven innings for a 17-3 victory. Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Joris Bert scored twice and drove in two after a triple and a double in the first two frames. Dany Scalabrini cleared and rounded the bases (in combination with a few errors) in the third to cap a six-run rally. The brothers Jordan and Joris Bert went a combined eight for ten with five runs scored and six RBIs. Mathieu Crescent picked up the win after four innings. Jean Francois Mayeur received the loss.

Savigny Lions – Templiers Senart 3-1, 24-21

Standings Playoffs:
Senart      28-8
Rouen       28-8
Savigny     23-13
Montpellier 16-20
