After missing the cut for the Opening Day roster of the Baltimore Orioles, Rick van den Hurk was designated for assignment since he hasn’t any option left in his contract. However he will remain with the O’s. He cleared waivers on Wednesday and was out-righted to Triple-A Norfolk. He will join their starting rotation alongside Zach Britton, Ryan Drese and Chris Jakubauskas. Van den Hurk had allowed twelve runs (9 ER) on ten hits and eight walks in six Spring Training innings. He came to Baltimore from the Florida Marlins at last summer’s trade deadline.
