Dutch right-hander Rick van den Hurk started two games of the best-of-seven Korea Series, leading the Samsung Lions to a 4-2 win over the Nexen Heroes, repeating as KBO Champions. Van den Hurk pitched in games one and five, earning two no-decisions.
The Samsung Lions scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to prevail 2-1 in game five, breaking the 2-2 tie in the series. On Tuesday they crushed Nexen 11-1 to return to the throne of Korean Baseball. Yamaico Navarro drove in five runs to lead dominant offense.
Van den Hurk had pitched seven innings each in his two Korea Series starts. In 14 innings he allowed eight hits, three runs and three walks, while striking out 20. The 29-year-old played his second season in Korea. During the regular season he had a 13-4 record with an ERA of 3.18 in 25 starts. He struck out 180 and walked 45 in 152 2/3 innings.
