After a busy offseason it was clear that Sant Boi will be a favorite to win the Spanish Division de Honor this year. After this weekend they are definitely the team to beat. In a duel of undefeated clubs they swept a two-game series against local rivals FC Barcelona to improve to 10-0 for the season.
On Saturday evening the offense provided a strong pitching staff with an early 5-0 lead after three innings en route to a 6-0 shutout. One day later CB scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth in a 2-1 victory. Barcelona had led since the opening frame.
The Tenerife Marlins ended their rare four-game losing streak with two wins on the road against Halcones de Vigo. But it was no walkover. In game one of the doubleheader on Saturday the defending champion needed to score three runs in the top of the ninth and stop a comeback in the bottom of a 5-4 victory. Seven runs in the last two frames in game two helped to turn the shutout into a blowout.
However Puerto Cruz remains in fourth place since Baseball Navarra took two victories from the Astros Valencia. Navarra is hosting Sant Boi next week. San Inazio Bilbao has reached the .500 plateau with a sweep in Gijon against El Llano. The lone split this weekend was seen in the matchup between CD Pamplona and CB Viladecans.
Short recaps to all ten games will follow on Monday evening.
