Opening Weekend in the Spanish Division de Honor is in the books. Defending champion Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz prevailed twice against San Inazio Bilbao on Saturday. Richard Montiel and Luis Landaeta combined for three homeruns, while Leslie Nacar and Ivan Granados picked up the wins on the mound. Game two of the doubleheader was called midway through the sixth because of a lack of light.
Three other two-game series were played too. CB Sant Boi out-scored CD Pamplona 25-4 in an easy sweep. The Astros Valencia doubled their win total of the past two seasons with two lopsided shutouts over El Llano. The lone split on the first game day was seen at Burlada between Baseball Navarra and CB Viladecans. Luis Villanueva and Victor Martinez combined for seven RBI in a Navarra win on Saturday. One day later Marc Jodar pitched seven strong innings to lead Viladecans to a victory.
The matchup between Halcones de Vigo and the FC Barcelona was postponed on Friday due to rain.
