The first two days of the ISF Junior Women’s World Championship in Cape Town, South Africa are in the books. After the hosts opened the tournament by edging out Botswana 6-5 following the opening ceremony on Wednesday, the remaining 14 teams entered the competition on Thursday. Or at least 13 of them, as Zimbabwe weren’t there for their matchup with Brazil. All the favored teams prevailed. Only one of the three European participants was victorious. The Czech Republic celebrated a 9-8 win over Puerto Rico. Germany allowed nine runs in the opening period of a 0-14 blowout against Taiwan. Australia crushed Russia 9-1.
