The Cologne Cardinals are joining the Neuenburg Atomics on their way into the 2nd Baseball-Bundesliga as the second relegated team. The Cards had a last opportunity this weekend to leave eighth place in the northern division. But on the sixth game day of the playdowns in the German Baseball-Bundesliga they split a doubleheader against the Pulheim Gophers, finishing the season with a 13-27 record one game behind the Gophers. Pulheim might need to play a relegation series to lock up a spot in the league for next year. The Dohren Wild Farmers and the Dortmund Wanderers also settled for a split, securing fifth place for the Wanderers.
In the southern division the Atomics already knew about their fate since a few weeks. They said farewell with their victories two and three of the season, pushing the Gauting Indians from fifth to seventh in the standings. The Indians now are in line to play a relegation series. The Saarlouis Hornets moved from seventh to fifth in the standings with a sweep over the Mainz Athletics.
