The German Baseball-Bundesliga opened the gates for the 2014 season this past weekend. Defending champion Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg celebrated its first two wins against the Haar Disciples. Evan LeBlanc hit a crucial grand slam in a 13-6 victory on Friday. One day later Regensburg scored five runs in the last two innings of a 12-11 comeback win, which saw Richard Klijn scoring the winner on a walk-off single by Philipp Howard.
In the north the Solingen Alligators edged out the Bonn Capitals 7-3 and 5-4. Harry Glynne and Chris Mezger provided the groundwork with good starts, Andre Hughes closed both games out, striking out Nils Hartkopf with the tying run on third in game two. The Dohren Wild Farmers, Mainz Athletics and Mannheim Tornados also captured two victories this week. The matchups between the Dortmund Wanderers and HSV Stealers as well as Stuttgart Reds and Heidenheim Heidekoepfe ended with splits.
