The fifth game day of the 2014 season in the German Baseball-Bundesliga was played during the middle of the week due to a national holiday. The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe, which saw the return of Luke Sommer, swept the Mainz Athletics 9-7 and 12-2. The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg and the Haar Disciples also celebrated two-win game days in the south. The matchup between the Mannheim Tornados and Stuttgart Reds got rained out.
The Solingen Alligators meanwhile remained undefeated. They beat the HSV Stealers 10-0 and 3-2 at home, a make-up of last weekend’s rainout. The Cologne Cardinals picked up their first two wins of the season against the Dortmund Wanderers. The Bonn Capitals downed the Dohren Wild Farmers in both ends of a doubleheader. Trevor Caughey won a pitcher’s duel in game two.
