In the German Baseball-Bundesliga 15 of the 16 games this weekend were played on Saturday. The highlight of the game day was a 20-strikeout gem by Richard Olson, who led the Stuttgart Reds to a split against the Tubingen Hawks. He is only the fourth pitcher in Bundesliga history to reach the 20-strikeout mark. The record stands at 26 Ks (Jason McCarter, Cologne).
Otherwise the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe stunned the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg with a sweep, the first against Regensburg since July of 2009. New number one in the south are the Mainz Athletics, which defeated the Haar Disciples twice in front of Philip D. Murphy, the US American Ambassador in Germany. Additionally the Bad Homburg Hornets and Mannheim Tornados shared victories.
In the north the favorites prevailed. The Solingen Alligators improved to 10-0 for the season with easy wins over the Dohren Wild Farmers. Nick Renault pitched another strong game, striking out 14 in game two. The Bonn Capitals remain in second place after two wins over the Berlin Sluggers. The HSV Stealers and Untouchables Paderborn follow after sweeps against the Cologne Cardinals respective Dortmund Wanderers. The U’s needed a walk-off home run by Bjoern Schonlau to decide game one of their twin bill.
