After one game day in the French Elite League, Rouen already is back in first place. The reigning champion won twice in Montigny to complete a sweep over the Cougars. In game one Montigny led 1-0 until the seventh in a pitcher’s duel between Keino Perez (ROU) and Justin Fry (MON), when the Huskies scored four runs en route to a 5-1 win. Joris Bert (ROU) hit a homerun in a 16-6 romp in game two. Newly elected French Baseball and Softball Federation president Didier Seminet threw out the first pitch before the start of the doubleheader.
The other two twin bills on opening weekend in France ended with a split. Stade Toulousain upset last year’s runner up Savigny Lions 5-4 in game two after losing the first game 6-9. Samuel Meurant (SEN) led the Templiers Senart to a 13-2 win in Montpellier in the first portion of the two-game set. Afterwards the Barracudas struck back and prevailed 6-5. The promoted Paris UC had a bye in week one.
