In the French Division I all eyes this Sunday were on the matchup between the Rouen Huskies and Paris UC. In the end the reigning champion fought off the improved PUC in both ends of the doubleheader. Game one featured a thrilling pitcher’s duel between Chris Mezger and James Murrey. Rouen won 1-0 behind Mathew Smith’s manufactured run in the second. Mezger ended up with 13 strikeouts in nine one-hit, three-walk innings. Murrey punched out 12, while issuing just one run on three hits and two free passes. In game two the Huskies scored five runs in third of a 5-3 win. Kenji Hagiwara and Luis Aponte had big two-RBI hits to support winning pitcher Owen Ozanich. Phil Bauer scored twice for Paris. Douglas Rodriguez took the loss.
