One day after the conclusion of the World Series, the Australian Baseball League opened the 2014/2015 season last Thursday. With the Canberra Cavalry and the Melbourne Aces looking from the sidelines on opening weekend, the Adelaide Bite, Brisbane Bandits, Perth Heat and Sydney Blue Sox collected two wins apiece. The so far lone European player in the competition, German right-hander Markus Solbach, had a successful debut for Sydney. He started against the Heat and allowed just three runs (2 ER) on four hits and three walks in six innings, while striking out five. On offense Mitch Dening had a thunderous start, hitting four home runs in just 14 at-bats for Adelaide.
