Already week six in the 2011/2012 season of the Australian Baseball League started with two games on Thursday. The Brisbane Bandits are facing the Perth Heat this week and sent Italian right-hander Alex Maestri as starter on the mound against the favorite.
He continued his strong showing down under with nine strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, three runs and three walks. He still got hit with the loss, as the Heat used three early runs for a 3-2 win. Aaron Baker and Brenden Webb took Maestri deep in the second and third. Daniel Schmidt got the win, issuing three hits, two unearned runs and two base on balls.
In the second matchup the Adelaide Bite beat the Canberra Cavalry 4-1. Denny Almonte and Calvin Anderson collected two hits apiece. Dushan Ruzic pitched six strong innings for his first victory of the season. Mike McGuire took the loss.
