The Cologne Cardinals introduced their first new player for the upcoming season in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. 21-year-old first baseman Rene Wolf is coming from the Bonn Capitals to the team of new head coach Georg Apfelbaum. He first played in the Baseball-Bundesliga in 2008, but hasn’t celebrated a breakout season yet at this level.
Last year Wolf mainly played for the Caps third-division club, batting .327/.507/.481 with one home run, 17 runs and 19 RBI in 20 games. He also had an ERA of 0.53 in 17 innings on the mound, striking out 29 and walking 14. Maurice Wilhelm (Bonn), Sascha Steffens (Solingen), Joshua Tamba (Therwil) and Joe Slater have departed the Cardinals this offseason.
