The Czech Baseball Association (CBA) announced on Monday that they have reached an agreement with the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg that the Armin-Wolf-Arena will host a first-round group at the 2014 European Championship. Two Czech cities – Prague, Brno, Trebic or Ostrava – will join Regensburg as hosts. One of them will host the other first-round pool, the other the final round.
According to the press release the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) has approved this plan. The tournament is scheduled to start on September 4, 5, 11 or 12 next year. Group A consists of Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Russia, Spain and the Netherlands. Group B, which will be hosted by Regensburg, is set with Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, defending champion Italy and Sweden.
Great Britain and Russia were the last two teams to qualify for the European Championship, winning the B-Level Euros in Zurich and Vienna last week. In 2012 Haarlem, Rotterdam and Utrecht hosted the European Championship with Italy defeating the Netherlands in the Gold Medal Game.
