The BUCHBINER LEGIONAERE REGENSBURG are on their way to the European Cup in Nettuno, Italy, where they will play against host DANESI NETTUNO, PORT OF ANTWERP GREYS, TENERIFE MARLINS, ROUEN HUSKIES and L&D AMSTERDAM PIRATES next week. With aboard on the 22-man roster are pitchers Eddie Aucoin and Philipp Hoffschild, and outfielder Daniel Husband, through the latter only will be a coach due to the foreign regulations during the competition.
Aucoin was now also official confirmed by REGENSBURG and will join the team on Sunday in Italy. His former club, the MANNHEIM TORNADOS already had announced that the right-hander will leave the team for the German champion. The 33-year-old Massachusetts native was probably the best pitcher in the Baseball-Bundesliga the past three seasons with an ERA of 1.94 in 305 1/3 innings. He also pitched for OSKARSHAMN in Sweden (2002) a few years ago.
Husband will begin his second season with the LEGIONAERE in 2009. He batted .266 (OBP .356/SLG .438) with three homeruns and 14 RBI last year, playing mostly at first base. He will sit out the European Cup, as pitchers Scott Lonergan, Aucoin and shortstop Matt Vance are going to fill the three foreign spots. Husband joins the team after playing in South Africa during the winter together with reliever Hoffschild, who also is right back in time for Nettuno.
