BASEBALL NAVARRA won its first game of the season after an eleven-inning thriller in Gijon. After trailing 0-2 since a RBI single by Javier Peyrote and a bases loaded walk by Marcos Trillo in the second, they tied the game in the ninth on a RBI single by Juan Jose Lopez and a bases loaded walk by Victor Martinez. A RBI single by Inaki Alfonso in the second extra inning sealed the 3-2 win. Lopez (NAV) started and struck out eleven in nine innings, allowing eight hits, two runs and four bb. Juan De Leon (LLA) had dominated with four strikeouts in eight scoreless five-hit innings, before Juan Javier Samboy (LLA) blew the lead. Roberto Noriega (L 0-1) first got out of the ninth-inning jam with three straight strikeouts, but lost the match in the end anyway. Martinez (W 1-0) picked up the win.
Game 2

EL LLANO finally ended its own losing streak with a 5-1 victory in game two on Sunday. Ruben Fente (W 2-1) punched out eight batters in eight solid innings to lead them to the win. He gave up six hits, a run and a walk. NAVARRA had taken the lead in the top of the first on a Juan Jose Lopez RBI single. But EL LLANO came right back with a two-run homerun by Jose Rafael Morales, who drove in three. Gabriel Sanso had two hits, a run and a RBI in four at bats. Alberto Espanol (L 0-1) took the loss, conceding three hits and three runs (2 ER) in five innings.
San Inazio Bilbao – Astros Valencia 8-1, 1-0

Led by shortstop Dirimo Chavez’ three this and three RBI SAN INAZIO defeated the ASTROS 8-1 on Saturday. Jose Eduardo Acosta scored three times. Fidel Mane (W 2-0) picked up his second win of the season with six strong innings, allowing five hits, a run and two walks, striking out nine. Willy Javier Guedez closed it out for the save. Elvis Polanco (L 0-2) gave up five hits, five runs (1 ER) and two bb in five innings.
Game 2:

The second game on Sunday was much closer, but thanks to solo homerun by Kelvim Marianucci in the sixth and a brilliant effort by the pitching staff, BILBAO won 1-0 and climbed back to .500. Alberto Magallon (W 2-1) struck out nine in 6 1/3 three-hit, two-walk innings. Andoni Ortiz (S 1) completed the shutout with 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Luis Galicia (L 0-1) didn’t receive any run support and took the loss despite a fine line of seven innings pitched, four hits, a run and four walks. If he can repeat this performance, the wait for the first victory for VALENCIA could be over.
CB Viladecans – Halcones de Vigo 3-5 (10), 9-6

The promoted club HALCONES continued to impress on the fourth game day of the Division de Honor. On Saturday they rallied from a 1-3 deficit in the ninth to win 5-3 against CB VILADECANS after ten innings. Marco Marques first drove in two with a single to tie the contest and then bringing home the winning runs one frame later, when left fielder David Porcar couldn’t handle his ball. Oscar Angulo had three this for the Catalonian team. Felix Cano delivered a RBI double. Roman Carrasco (VIG) allowed five hits, two runs (1 ER) and three bb in five innings. Delio Martinez (VIL) surrendered eight hits, three runs and five walks in 8 2/3 innings. Ronny Malave (W 3-1) already received his third ‘W’ of the season with six strikeouts in five innings of relief. Marc Jodar (L 1-1) took the loss.

In game two, VILADECANS nearly blew a lead once again. After scoring seven runs in the first three frames, VIGO cut the deficit to a run with a six-run rally in the sixth, but CB answered with two insurance runs in the bottom of the period to seal the 9-6 win. Oscar Angulo and David Porcar combined to drive in five runs for the Spanish record champion. Michel San Gil had two RBI for HALCONES. Joshua Castro (W 1-1) conceded three hits, six runs (2 ER) and three bb in 5 1/3 innings. Jose Gabriel Mendez (L 0-1) gave up seven hits, seven runs (5 ER) and six walks in five innings.
CD Pamplona – CB Sant Boi 0-5, 1-9

CB SANT BOI bolstered third place in the standings with two victories in PAMPLONA last weekend. In game one, Oscar Alvarez (W 3-1) pitched a gem, allowing just two hits and a walk in a complete game shutout. He struck out eight. Javier Flores drove in two. Jose Estebin Cruz had three hits, including a triple. Patrice Briones (L 1-1) was responsible for nine hits, three runs (1 ER) and two walks in six innings, striking out seven.
Game 2:

In the second match Javier Flores stepped five times to the plate, singled four times, doubled once, scored thrice and drove in three, leading SANT BOI to a 9-1 win. Jose Luis Riera also scored three runs. Flores was not the only batter with five hits in the game, as PAMPLONA’s Jose San Martin matched the feat. Jose Estebin Cruz (W 4-0) struck out twelve in seven innings for the win, allowing eight hits, a run and three bb. Juan Redin (L 0-1) was roughed up with six hits, six runs (4 ER) and four bb in four-plus innings.
