A walk-off RBI single by Giovanni Bottaro (3-3, 2 RBI) in the bottom of the ninth lifted the North East Knights to a 6-5 win over Novara United on Saturday evening, completing a three-game sweep. Both teams had exchanged five runs each in the first four innings. Terrence McClain walked four times, scoring three runs. Carlos Boza drove in three. Matteo Galeotti (GOD) gave up six hits, five runs (4 ER) and four bb in three innings. Antonio Noguera (NOV) allowed eight hits, five runs (3 ER) and three walks in five innings. Daniele Del Bianco (W) got the win, Enrico Ciuffetelli (L) the loss.

Montepaschi Grosseto – Unipol Bologna 3-8, 7-12

Unipol Bologna completed a sweep over Montepaschi Grosseto with two wins on Saturday. In the afternoon affair Fortitudo scored seven runs in the first three innings en route to an 8-3 win. Massimiliano Sartori drove in four. Edgar Clemente and Joe Mazzuca had two RBI apiece. Cody Cillo (W) issued six hits, two runs and three bb in seven innings. Chris Cooper (L) was charged with eight hits, seven runs and a walk in 2 1/3 innings.

In the night cap Unipol Bologna won a slugfest by a score of 12-7. Five runs by Grosseto in the fourth were answered by six from Bologna in the sixth. Daniel Bittar, who was 4-for-5, hit a grand slam. Julio Ramirez homered for Fortitudo. Edgar Clemente went 4-for-4 with three RBI. Fabio Betto (W) conceded eight hits, six runs and two bb in six innings. Riccardo De Santis (L) gave up seven hits, eight runs (2 ER) and three walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Cariparma Parma avoided a third loss in three days with a 3-2 victory on Saturday evening. A sac fly by Luca Scalera, a wild pitch and a RBI single by Davide Dallospedale plated the three runs for the defending Italian champion. Tony Granato homered and drove in both runs for the Titans. He also was on second, when the game ended with a groundout by Giovanni Pantaleoni. Mihai Burlea (W) issued eight hits, two runs and four walks in six innings. Tiago Da Silva (L) surrendered nine hits and three runs in seven innings.

Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez (W) allowed just one unearned run on seven hits and three bb in seven innings to lead Telemarket Rimini to an 8-1 win over Danesi Nettuno. Seven strikeouts highlighted the outing. At the plate the Pirates scored in four of the first five innings to take a commanding lead. Mario Chiarini homered and drove in three. Brian Chaves scored three times. Jose Escalona (L) issued six hits, six runs (2 ER) and two bb in four innings.

A walk-off homerun by Olmo Perez Rosario in the bottom of the tenth lifted Danesi Nettuno to a 5-4 win over Telemarket Rimini in the night cap of the doubleheader on Saturday. It was his second homerun of the game. Brian Chaves drove in two for Rimini. The Pirates had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, but Nettuno tied it right away in the bottom of the frame. Sandy Patrone (RIM) lasted just 3 1/3 innings, conceding three runs on four hits. Carlos Richetti (NET) gave up eight hits, four runs and a walk in 6 1/3 innings. Carlos Pezzullo (W) received the win, Chris Di Roma (L) took the loss.
