HSV Stealers – Solingen Alligators 2-9, 2-17
The ALLIGATORS improved their record to 13-1 with two easy wins in Hamburg. In game one they used a seven-run fifth to defeat the STEALERS 9-2. Jens Cornelsen picked up his fifth win of the year. Dortmund Wanderers – Pulheim Gophers 7-2, 4-2
The WANDERERS erased the memories of the two losses on opening day with a sweep over the GOPHERS in the day-night doubleheader at the Hoeschpark last Saturday. In game one, DORTMUND scored the five decisive runs between the sixth and eighth of a 7-2 win. Trevor Howell hit a solo homerun. In the second match Matt Kemp held the PULHEIM offense in check and led the WANDERERS to a 4-2 victory.
Bonn Capitals – Cologne Cardinals 5-4 (13), 0-7
On one hand you have to admire Tim Henkenjohann to pitch 13 innings to lead BONN to a 5-4 win against the CARDINALS. However on the other hand you also have to question the abuse of a German national team pitcher, who is not some guy with an 80-MPH rubber arm, but a power pitcher, who is able to reach the mid and high nineties. He threw more than 200 pitches on Saturday according to the game report on the German Baseball-Bundesliga website just weeks after pitching with just one day rest following another complete game. The CAPS by the way, won on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded. In the second match Kalev Betancourt secured the split for COLOGNE with a complete game two-hit shutout. He struck out eleven in the 7-0 win.

In the second match MAINZ used a three-run homerun by Mike Larson and 13 strikeouts in seven one-hit innings by Nils Hartkopf to prevail 5-1. Chris Clem took the loss, despite nine K’s in seven innings.
Mannheim Tornados – Saarlouis Hornets 17-2 (7), 3-2
The TORNADOS solidified third place in the southern standings with a sweep over the HORNETS. They now feature a five-game lead towards fifth place and get start with the playoff preparations. Marvin Appiah went five-for-five with a triple, three runs scored and three RBI, crushing SAARLOUIS 17-2. Dominik Hoepfner hit a homerun. Billy Hess had four hits in five at bats. It was much closer in the second one, as MANNHEIM needed a Chris Falls RBI single in the bottom of the second to win 3-2. The teams had exchanged two runs each in the bottom of the first and the top of the second. The pitchers took over afterwards and shut down the offenses. Philipp Hoehlein picked up the win with 5 1/3 scoreless inning of relief. Kenny Camp lost for the third time this year.
Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Haar Disciples 2-1, 13-3 (7)
HEIDENHEIM won both ends of their doubleheader against the DISCIPLES on Sunday. They managed just three hits in game one against strong pitching by Ted Gieschen (L 1-3) and Dirk Fries, but were able to plate the two necessary runs in the fifth and the defense held on in a 2-1 win. In the second match the HEIDEKOEPFE offense took over from the start, taking a 4-0 lead in the first en route to a 13-3 victory in seven innings. Robert Gruber went three-for-four with two runs scored and three RBI. Tony Younis, who returned from college to HAAR, hit a solo homerun. Dusty Bergman pitched five innings for win number six.
