Homer Baez (W 7-0) led the FC BARCELONA to a 10-0 shutout over VIGO in game one of their two-game series last weekend in the Spanish Division de Honor. He gave up just one hit and four walks in eight innings, while striking out six. Felix Isasi and Jesus Golindano each scored twice. Orlando Diaz doubled three times. Ronny Malave (L 3-3) was charged with eight hits, five runs (4 ER) and two bb in five innings.

The HALCONES offense was working better in game two of the matchup, but couldn’t plate a run either, as BARCA prevailed 4-0. Pedro Belmonte (W 5-0) pitched around nine hits in nine innings to pick up his fifth win of the season. Emmanuel Febles went two-for-two with two RBI. Jorge Miqueleiz scored twice. Jose Romero (L 1-2) took the loss after giving up one unearned run on one hit and five bb in two-plus innings.
Tenerife Marlins – CB Sant Boi 13-7, 3-2

The MARLINS also stay undefeated after their matchup with SANT BOI. However the Catalonian team didn’t make it easy for the reigning Spanish champion. In game one the guests built up a fast 5-0 lead until the halfway point of the third inning. But PUERTO CRUZ answered with seven runs in the bottoms of the third and fourth to go up in front. Six more runs at the end sealed the 13-7 victory. Richard Montiel went four-for-five with two homeruns, including a grand slam, three runs scored and six RBI. Luis Perez homered also and drove in three. Rafael Rivas and William Domero each drove in two for SANT BOI. Leslie Nacar (W 7-0) picked up the win despite the struggles, pitching nine innings, while allowing ten hits, seven runs and six bb. He struck out ten. Oscar Alvarez (L 5-3) surrendered twelve hits, seven runs (6 ER) and a walk in six innings.

The second game on Sunday morning was similar to the first one a day before, though it wasn’t a high-scoring affair. SANT BOI took a 2-0 lead through two innings on a RBI single by Jose Luis Riera and a solo homerun by Yaeko Vazquez. MARLINS’ Daniel Martinez cut the deficit to a half with a RBI single in the fourth. The outcome was decided in the seventh, when first Marco Gonzalez tied the game on a passed ball and later Juan Macias delivered the decisive hit with a RBI double into the gap in left-center. Ivan Granados (W 6-0) allowed seven hits, two runs and five bb in nine innings. He struck out eight. Jose Estebin Cruz (L 7-1) lost for the first time this season, conceding five hits, three runs (2 ER) and two walks in eight innings.
El Llano – CB Viladecans 2-1, 3-2

Two runs in the first inning of game one were enough for EL LLANO to defeat VILADECANS 2-1. Emilio Perez put them up in front with a RBI single. Moments later Gabriel Sanso doubled the run total by scoring on a double play groundball. CB answered with a run in the third on a sac fly by Oscar Angulo, but wasn’t able to tie the game afterwards. Juan De Leon (W 3-3) gave up one run on seven hits in eight innings for the win. Delio Martinez (L 4-1) struck out nine in 7 2/3 innings, but also allowed five hits, two runs and three bb.

The second match was also decided early. Rafael Perez stole home, as part of a double steal, in the first to put VILADECANS up 1-0. But the team from Gijon answered with two runs n the bottom of the frame. They evened the score with a sac fly by Jose Morales and took the lead, when Gabriel Sanso scored on a wild pitch. They added another run in the third on a RBI single by Roberto Noriega. CB cut the deficit one last time in the fourth on a sac fly by Juan Fernandez, but failed to bring in a third run and lost 2-3. Ruben Fente (W 4-1) allowed eight hits, two runs and three walks in nine innings. Joshua Castro (L 0-1) gave up nine hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings.
CD Pamplona – San Inazio Bilbao 0-5, 11-20

Fidel Mane (W 3-2) allowed just six hits in eight scoreless innings to lead SAN INAZIO to a 5-0 victory in PAMPLONA. He struck out five. Dirimo Chavez scored two of the five runs. Kelvin Marianucci had three hits. Alexis Fumero (L 0-5) struck out ten in nine innings, in which he was responsible for ten hits, five runs (4 ER) and seven bb.

Game two of the doubleheader was an ugly one. BILBAO plated 20 runs, helped by ten errors by the CD defense, to win 20-11. Kelvin Marianucci and Rene Reyes combined to score nine of the 20 runs. Carlos Vicario drove in four, Asier Izaguirre three. Jose San Martin had four hits for PAMPLONA. Alexis Fumero went three-for-six with three RBI. The third baseman also committed three of the ten errors. Sergio Acha (W 1-0) picked up the win in relief of Alberto Magallon and Andoni Ortiz. Eneko Del Burgo (L 0-2) took the loss.

NAVARRA extended the lead over the bottom-ranked teams in the Division de Honor standings with two wins in VALENCIA. In game one they blew a 4-1 lead in the fourth, but were up again one frame later en route to an 8-4. In the second match they scored five runs in the first on their way to an 8-2 win. They are now 5-10 and in eighth place, while the ASTROS remain winless.
