Templiers Senart – Stade Toulousain 19-1, 7-8
The Templiers Senart and Stade Toulousain resumed play in the French Elite League last weekend with a split. In game one Senart scored ten runs in the opening period and 18 in the first three frames en route to a 19-1 blowout in five innings. D. Franklin went 4-for-4 with two homeruns, four runs and five RBI. K. Atkinson also went deep. He drove in five. Each of the nine players in the Templiers starting lineup scored at least one run and drove in another. M. Brelle-Andrade (W 2-0) allowed one run on three hits in five innings. L. Cespedes (L 0-1) managed just one out in the first, issuing one hit, six runs and four walks.
In game two Toulouse quickly took a fast 4-1 lead after one inning and was up 8-1 midway through the seventh. Senart’s offense woke up and rallied for five runs in the bottom of the frame cut the deficit to a single after eight innings. But it was not enough, as they lost 7-8 in the end. F. Rouge was 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI for the Tigers. F. Hanvi and J. Boutagra combined for three homeruns and six RBI for the Templiers. T. Dourlens (W 1-0) went five innings, allowing four hits, a run and three bb. D. Franklin (L 0-2) surrendered four hits, five runs (3 ER) and four walks in just 3 2/3 innings.
Pessac Panthers – Montpellier Barracudas 4-3 (10), 5-13
The promoted Pessac Panthers managed a split against the favored Montpellier Barracudas in their home openers. In game one Pessac erased a 0-3 deficit in the bottom of the eighth and won the contest 4-3 thanks to a walk-off RBI single by L. Mangle in the tenth. P. Briones (W 1-0) received the win after five strong innings of relief. T. Meley (L 0-1) took the loss. L. Andrades (MON) gave up just one walk in six no-hit innings. M. Tyler (PES) also didn’t give up a hit through five innings, but issued two unearned runs on six walks.
In the second part of the twin bill, G. and A. Cros combined for seven hits, six runs and five RBI to lead the Barracudas to a 13-5 win. They scored in seven of the nine innings. J. Navarro (W 1-1) gave up four hits, two runs and a walk in five innings for the win. A. Leroy (L 0-2) surrendered four hits, four runs and four bb in four innings.
Paris UC – Rouen Huskies 0-10 (7), 3-16 (7)
The Rouen Huskies moved into a tie for first place in the French Elite League thanks to a pair of big victories over Paris UC. The reigning champion out-scored the record title holder 26 to three in sweep. In game one D. Washington went 2-for-3 with two walks, a triple and three RBI to lead Rouen to a 10-0 shutout in seven innings. K. Perez (W 2-1) allowed five hits and a walk in seven scoreless innings. W. Musson (L 1-1) struck out seven in six innings, but also surrendered nine hits, seven runs (6 ER) and three bb in six innings.
In the second game the Huskies scored five runs in the first and six in the seventh on their way to a 16-3 win. O. Combes went 2-for-4 with four RBI. L. Piquet had three hits and three RBI. B. Marche crossed the plate three times. In the absence of J. Chrystal, who will arrive on April 7, J. Bert (W 1-0) got the start and allowed just one run on five hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out six. M. Monbeig (L 0-1) gave up two hits, five runs and four bb in 2/3 of an inning.
The two-game set between the Savigny Lions and the Montigny Cougars got postponed and will be made up at a later date in the season.
