After losing the opener on Friday Montepaschi Grosseto came back strong on Saturday, winning 14-3 against Novara United in the morning game of their doubleheader. Eight runs in the top of the sixth blew things wide open. Luis Maza highlighted the rally with a grand slam. Leonardo Mazzanti scored three times. Stefano Cappucini drove in three. Niccolo Milani had two RBI for Novara. Chris Cooper (W) gave up five hits, an unearned run and no walks in five strong innings. Luca Marzullo (L) was charged with seven hits, eight runs and four bb in 5 2/3 innings.

Afterwards the Grosseto Orioles also won the rubber match of the series. They defeated Novara 7-2 in the evening game. Five runs combined in the fourth and fifth decided the outcome. Andrea Sgnaolin went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBI. Alexander Sucet had three hits, a run and a RBI for United. Riccardo De Santis (W) gave up four hits, a run and a walk in five innings. Enrio Ciuffetelli (L) allowed eight hits, six runs (3 ER) and two bb in 4 2/3 innings.

Telemarket Rimini completed the sweep over the North East Knights with two lopsided victories on Saturday. In game one of the doubleheader the Pirates scored in each of the first six innings en route to a 12-0 shutout. Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez (W) gave up only two hits and a walk in five scoreless innings, striking out seven. Brandon Chaves (3 RBI), Nelson Bryant (4 RBI) and Filippo Crociati (2 RBI) hit homeruns. Edgar Arismendi (L) surrendered nine hits, nine runs (8 ER) and three bb in 2 1/3 innings.

In the second game of the day and the third in the series, Rimini scored eight runs in the third frame on its way to an 11-1 win over the Knights. Mario Chiarini drove in three. Filippo Crociati went 4-for-4. Josh Phelps scored three times. The former Major Leaguer went 3-for-5 with eight walks in the series. He scored seven runs. Sandy Patrone (W) gave up four hits, a run and a walk in six innings. Matteo Galeotti (L) allowed nine hits, nine runs (5 ER) and three bb in 2 2/3 innings.
T&A San Marino – Danesi Nettuno 5-1, 9-6

T&A San Marino also completed a sweep on Saturday. They also defeated Danesi Nettuno in both ends of their twin bill. In game one the Titans scored four runs in the first two innings in a 5-1 victory. Wuilliuans Vasquez homered and drove in two. Carlos Duran scored twice. Juan Camilo accounted for the lone Nettuno run with a homerun in the sixth. Ivan Granados (W) gave up just two hits and two walks in five scoreless innings. Jose Escalona (L) lasted just two outs, three hits, three runs and three bb against his former team. Jose Estebin Cruz pitched six solid innings of relief.

In the second game of the day T&A San Marino scored in each of the first five innings for an early 9-1 lead. Danesi tried to come back, but only managed to cut the deficit to three runs. Jairo Ramos homered twice and drove in four. Mattia Reginato also hit a homerun. Olmo Perez Rosario and Kelly Ramos combined for four RBI for Nettuno. Tiago Da Silva (W) gave up six hits, five runs and five bb in five-plus innings. Carlos Richetti (L) was charged with eight hits, six runs and a walk in three innings.

Unipol Bologna completed a sweep in a rematch of last year’s Italian Series, winning 12-4 in the third game on Saturday. Edgar Clemente hit a homerun. Juan Pablo Angrisano drove in four. Stefano De Simoni and Davide Dallospedale had three hits apiece for Parma. Fabio Betto (W) allowed ten hits and four runs (3 ER) in six innings. Roberto Corradini (PAR) issued four hits, four runs and three bb in five innings. Pedro Orta (L) took the loss in relief.
