SUPERFUND Wanderers Vienna – Schwechat Blue Bats 13-1, 5-4 (10)
The WANDERERS swept their series with the BLUE BATS and started the new season in the Austrian Baseball League with a perfect 6-0 record. In game one Christoph Horeschy scored four times and Nick DeForest and Heinrich Amadei drove in three apiece in a 13-1 pounding by VIENNA. Johannes Pernkopf impressed with seven strong innings, conceding three hits, one run and two walks for the win. In the second match the WANDERERS overcame a 2-4 deficit in the bottom of the ninth, when BLUE BATS shortstop Christof Sebastian threw the ball away after a groundball. In the tenth it was Amadei, who ended it with a walk-off RBI single to center field.
Vienna Diving Ducks – Schwaz Tigers 6-10, 6-2
The DIVING DUCKS split their doubleheader at home against the TIGERS. In game one Peter Nagiller and Jochen Koechl each scored twice to lead SCHWAZ to a 10-6 win. Matthias Vogler drove in two. Paul Astl went the distance to pick up the win, allowing six runs (1 ER) on five hits and six bb. He struck out 13. Clemens Seiser took the loss. In the second match Jose Ortiz gave up two hits, two unearned runs and eight walks in a complete game effort to lead VIENNA to a 6-2 win. Michael Nagamatsu was charged with the loss. Christian Scherz scored twice and drove in two.
Union Kufstein Vikings – Vienna Metrostars 0-7, 9-6
In game one the METROSTARS won 7-0 behind a solid performance by pitchers Christoph Bernacki and Hubert Weiser Jr. They gave up just eight hits and two walks combined in the shutout. Lutz Rauch and Peter Ferak Jr. scored two runs apiece. In the second part of the twin bill, Koichi Hida and Chris Piano put on an offensive show to lead the VIKINGS to a 9-6 victory. Piano went three-for-five with a homerun, four runs scored and four RBI. Hida doubled, tripled and crossed the plate three times for runs. Werner Harrasser struck out eight in nine innings for the win.
The doubleheader between the MOSQUITO ATHLETICS and the DORNBIRN INDIANS was postponed due to rain.
