Recaps: Sundbyberg Heat sweeps Goteborg Hajarna

Goteborg Hajarna – Sundbyberg Heat 11-14, 5-15 (7)

Sundbyberg Heat moved into a tie for first place in the top-six round of the Swedish Elitserien on Sunday by sweeping Goteborg Hajarna. In game one they won a slugfest 14-11, as Rob Learned scored five times and Shawn Vance went 4-for-7 with five RBI. Learned (W 1-0) also got the win on the mound, striking out nine in six innings, allowing five hits, six runs and three bb. Kerry Fitzgerald (L 1-3) issued eight hits, ten runs (8 ER) and nine bb in five innings for the loss.

In game two Sundbyberg scored four runs in the second and seventh and six in the fourth en route to a 15-5 victory. Will Rikard and Rob Learned combined to score seven of the 15 runs. Andreas Wahlin drove in two for Goteborg. Nick Soubiea (W 7-1) gave up six hits, five runs (4 ER) and six bb in six innings. Curtis Dionne (L 4-5) surrendered ten hits, eleven runs (10 ER) and three walks in four innings.

Tranås – Stockholm 11-16, 11-9

Leader Stockholm had to settle for a split in their twin bill with Tranås on Sunday. In game one the defending champion scored eight runs in the second in a 16-11 slugfest. Kevin Santiago drove in five. Magnus Pilegård and Oscar Carlstedt combined for seven runs. Adeyinka Adewusi went 3-for-4 with a homerun, four runs scored and four RBI. Jakob Claesson (W 5-2) conceded eight hits, eleven runs (5 ER) and seven walks in six innings, but still got away with the win. Kyle West (L 2-2) issued seven hits, twelve runs (1 ER) and four bb in also six frames.

In game two Tranås overcame deficits of 2-5 and 5-6 to beat Stockholm 11-9. Adeyinka Adewusi and Josh Clemmons led the way, by going a combined 8-for-9 with two homeruns, five runs scored and nine RBI. Tony Dermendziev scored thrice. Kevin Santiago collected four hits for Stockholm. Karl Knutsson (W 3-1) gave up twelve hits, nine runs (8 ER) and two bb in nine innings. Niklas Eriksson (L 1-1) surrendered nine hits, eleven runs (10 ER) and four walks in seven-plus innings.

Leksand Lumberjacks – Karlskoga Bats 4-2, 3-5

In the lone low-scoring doubleheader in the Swedish Elitserien this weekend, the Leksand Lumberjacks and the Karlskoga Bats settled for a split. After already impressing in his start versus Germany at the European Championship Richard Leander led the Lumberjacks to a 4-2 win in game one after allowing just two hits in nine innings. In the second match the Bats broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run rally in the third to win 5-3. Stefan Fahlin drove in two in the frame. Eimantes Zickus allowed just four hits in a complete game victory.
