Saarlouis Hornets – Gauting Indians 3-4 (10), 5-6
The Indians are back in the mix for a playoff spot in the southern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga. One week after getting their first win of the season with a 6-0 shutout against the Athletics at home, they won both games on the road in Saarlouis. In game one Gauting prevailed 4-3 in ten innings. In the second match they erased a 1-5-deficit and won 6-5. John Dobkowski, who hadn’t the best start into his German Baseball career, picked up the win in game one, saved the second one, got his first hit, a run and a stolen base.
Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Mainz Athletics 4-2, 8-0
The Heidekoepfe solidified second place in the southern standings with a sweep over the Athletics. In the first game, Simon Guehring put Heidenheim ahead with a solo homerun in the fourth and a sac fly in the fifth. Peter Dankerl made it 3-0 in the sixth, before Mainz cut the deficit to a run in the seventh. Dusty Bergman drove in an insurance run in the eighth and the Heidekoepfe won by a score of 4-2. Bergman took the mound in the second part of the doubleheader to lead Heidenheim to an easy 8-0 shutout. The offense already provided him with an early 4-0 cushion after three innings.
Neuenburg Atomics – Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg 1-10, 1-11 (7)
The Buchbinder Legionaere traveled to Neuenburg on Sunday and picked up wins number eleven and twelve of the season, remaining undefeated. In game one they used a six-run fourth en route to a 10-1 win. The rally was capped by a Ludwig Glaser three-run homerun. Richard Klijn and Chris Howard scored twice. Haar Disciples – Mannheim Tornados 7-10 (10), 9-5
Before the game day, the Disciples probably would have been satisfied with a split against the Tornados. But afterwards they had a bitter-sweet feeling. In game one Mannheim erased a 4-7-deficit in the top of the ninth with a two-run homerun by Sascha Lutz and a two-out RBI single by Christian Schuler. The Tornados won the contest 10-7 thanks to three runs in the tenth. In the second game Haar built up a 7-1 lead through seven innings behind another strong start by Calvin Brutus on its way to a 9-5 win. Michael Stephan sealed the victory with a late homerun. With the split the two teams remain third and fourth in the standings.
