Untouchables Paderborn – Solingen Alligators 2-7, 7-5
The Untouchables Paderborn and the Solingen Alligators settled for a split in their showdown of the seventh game day in the German Baseball-Bundesliga on Saturday. Andre Hughes threw 158 pitches in a complete game victory to lead Solingen to a 7-2 win in game one. Dominik Wulf collected five hits and three runs on offense. Dustin Hughes had the go-ahead triple in the ninth. In game two Bjoern Schonlau hit a homerun, scored twice and drove in three to give Paderborn a 7-5 win. Brian Fields struck out 11 in seven innings for the win.
Dohren Wild Farmers – Cologne Cardinals 3-17, 6-0
The Dohren Wild Farmers and the Cologne Cardinals also settled for the split. The Cards won game one thanks to an outburst of the offense. Marcel Raab and Maurice Wilhelm (3-4, 4 RBI) homered. Josh Tamba scored four times. The pitching staff allowed just one hit in seven innings. In the second match Mat Keplinger took over and brought Dohren a 6-0 shutout. The American hurler issued just three hits and two walks in nine scoreless innings, while striking out 16. 91 of his 142 pitches were strikes.
Berlin Sluggers – Bonn Capitals 2-9, 0-10 (7)
The Bonn Capitals swept the Berlin Sluggers 9-2 and 10-0 in a pair of lopsided affairs in the German capital. Bonn scored five runs in the first inning of the first game en route to the win. Lennart Weller led the way by going 5-for-6 with a homerun and four RBI. Florian Nehring also reached base five times. Bonn scored seven runs in the fourth inning of game two. Nehring drove in four runs. Charley Olson struck out six in six scoreless three-hit innings.
South:
Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg – Stuttgart Reds 8-3, 9-4
The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg moved into first place of the southern standings with a pair of victories over the Stuttgart Reds. In game one they scored six runs in the first two innings en route to an 8-3 win. Evan LeBlanc drove in three and scored twice. Mike Bolsenbroek struck out six in three innings of perfect relief. In game two Regensburg overcame a 3-4 deficit to prevail 9-4. Josh Little, who already had a pair of RBI in game one, went deep and drove in four for Stuttgart. Justin Kuehn struck out 11 in a complete game win. Matt Vance scored thrice for the Buchbinder Legionaere.
Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Mainz Athletics 7-1, 13-4
The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe celebrated a pair of statement wins over the weekend, crushing the Mainz Athletics 7-1 and 13-4. Six runs in the fourth inning decided the outcome of game one. Alex Lauterbach went 3-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI. Aljosha Schattmann went the distance for the win. Heidenheim scored eight runs in the first inning of game two, reaching victory lane early. Justin Wilson crossed the plate four times. Andrew Smith went deep and drove in four. Martin Dewald pitched six innings of scoreless relief for the win.
The doubleheaders between the Dortmund Wanderers and HSV Stealers, as well as the Mannheim Tornados and Bad Homburg Hornets were rained out.
