Tenerife Marlins win twice in Viladecans

CD Pamplona – Halcones de Vigo 1-3, 6-2

After their opener against the FC Barcelona was rained out in week one, Halcones de Vigo started in Pamplona into the new season. In game one on Saturday they scored single runs in the first three innings en route to a 3-1 victory. Rafael Gomera (W 1-0) allowed just three hits, a run and three walks in 6 1/3 innings, striking out seven. Roman Carrasco closed it out with six Ks in 2 2/3 dominant innings. Marcos Castillo (L 0-2) struck out 15 batters in a complete game, but also conceded six hits, three runs (2 ER) and two bb to take the loss.

In the second match Pamplona picked up its first win of the year. After taking the lead on an error in the fifth, CD scored four runs in the seventh to decide the outcome in a 6-2 victory. Jose San Martin drove in two during the rally with a double. Juan Redin (W 1-0) gave up five hits, a run and four walks in six-plus innings. Diego Corvalan (L 0-1) issued five hits, four runs (3 ER) and six bb in 6 1/3 innings, striking out nine. Vigo’s Marcos Trillo went 3-for-3 with a double and a RBI.

El Llano – CB Sant Boi 3-15 (7), 0-19 (7)

Rafael Rivas, Jose Luis Riera and Gaspard Fessy picked up three RBI apiece in a 15-3 seven-inning win by Sant Boi in game one of their series in Gijon. Daniel Martinez scored four times. Marc Carrillo went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. New pitcher Jose Guanchez (W 1-0) got the starting nod this time over Junior Guerra, who later pitched the seventh. Guanchez allowed four hits, two runs and six bb in five innings during his Spanish Division de Honor debut. He struck out ten. Juan Padilla (L 0-1), who had joined El Llano last week, gave up four hits, six runs (4 ER) and two bb in just one inning of work.

The second game on Sunday was even more lopsided. Sant Boi scored in six of the seven innings, including an eight-spot in the fifth, en route to a 19-0 victory. El Llano managed just one hit and a walk against Pedro Luis Peraza (W 1-0, 5 IP, H, BB, 6 SO) and Jose Estebin Cruz. The two hurlers combined for eleven strikeouts. This time it was Jose Luis Riera’s turn to scored four runs. Daniel Martinez had a double, a triple, three runs and three RBI. Edgar Hernandez drove in three. Belarmino Granda (L 0-1) conceded 13 hits, 13 runs (7 ER) and three walks in five innings.

San Inazio Bilbao – Astros Valencia 1-5, 9-6

The Astros confirmed their performance from the first game day with a 5-1 win in game one in Bilbao on Sunday. John Scott Dunn (W 2-0) allowed just one run on five hits and five walks in seven-plus strong innings to pick up the victory. At the plate fellow 2010 roster additions Pedro Mendez (two runs), Kevin Malone (4-5) and Sandel Cuevas (two RBI) provided the necessary run support for the heavily improved club. The only blemish was a solo homerun by San Inazio’s Tony Granadillo. Fidel Torres Mane (L 0-2) gave up nine hits, five runs (4 ER) and a walk in six innings.

In the wild second part of the doubleheader, San Inazio scored in each of the first five innings on their way to a 9-6 win, their first of the season. Valencia tried to come back with a pair of three-run rallies in the third and fourth, but it was not enough. Asier Izaguirre headed the home offense with a four-RBI day, mainly thanks to a bases clearing double in the opening frame. Tony Granadillo went 4-for-six with two runs scored. Kevin Malone hit a three-run homerun for the Astros. Alberto Magallon (W 1-1) issued nine hits, six runs (3 ER) and four bb in seven-plus innings. Jordi Valles (L 1-1) conceded nine hits, seven runs (6 ER) and five walks in three-plus innings.

CB Viladecans – Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz 1-13 (7), 2-9

Five players from the Tenerife Marlins collected three hits each in a 13-1 win over Viladecans in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. Nguyen Boulet scored three runs and drove in three. Lesther Galvan also crossed the plate three times. Luis Landaeta picked up four RBI. Richard Montiel and Javier Flores combined for four RBI. Leslie Nacar (W 2-0) cruised to an easy victory, his second of the season. He struck out six in six innings, allowing three hits, a run and a walk. Fabian Marquez (L 0-2) was responsible for eight hits, six runs and four bb in four innings.

In the second part of the twin bill Puerto Cruz scored five runs in the fourth en route to a 9-2 win. Lesther Galvan and Nestor Perez formed a productive duo at the top of the batting order, going a combined 5-for-10 with two doubles, a run and five RBI. Luis Landaeta and Richard Montiel each scored twice. Camilo Gonzalez had three hits for Viladecans. Ivan Granados (W 2-0) struck out ten batters in eight innings. He issued seven hits, two runs (1 ER) and two bb. Pol Llopis (L 0-1) got nod this week for CB. He gave up nine hits, eight runs (2 ER) and a walk in five innings.

FC Barcelona – Baseball Navarra 5-2, 8-4

With Delio Miguel Martinez still on the bench, Jason Friedman (W 1-0) got the start in the home opener for the FC Barcelona on Saturday evening. The right-hander led his team to a 5-2 win over Navarra thanks to 13 strikeouts in eight innings. He allowed five hits, two runs (1 ER) and seven bb. The guests had taken an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a bases loaded walk by Daniel Erice. Barcelona tied the contest in the fourth through a RBI single by Sergio Roman. One frame later they put the match in the books with a three-run rally. Miguel Mora had the big hit with a two-run single. Juan Jose Lopez (L 1-1) issued five hits, four runs (1 ER) and three walks in five innings.

Emmanuel Febles scored four runs in the second game of the series on Sunday to lead the FCB to an 8-4 win. Orlando Diaz drove in two. The home team did most of its damage during the second and the fourth, putting six runs on the board. Pedro Belmonte (W 1-0) struck out eight in eight innings. He conceded seven hits, four runs (2 ER) and a walk for the win. Oscar Gimenez, who already had closed out the first game with three strikeouts twelve hours earlier, again punched out three in a scoreless ninth. Diego Armando Perez (L 0-1) was charged with five hits, six runs (1 ER) and two bb in five innings.
