Rodney Rodriguez struck out 11 in six scoreless two-hit innings to lead T&A San Marino to a 2-0 shutout over Novara United on Friday evening in the Italian Baseball League. Carlos Duran and Jairo Ramos provided the run support with a RBI single in the first and a solo homerun in the third. Mitch Waters otherwise kept the champion’s offense in check, issuing two runs on eight hits and three walks in 6 1/3 frames.
Unipol Bologna – Cariparma Parma 4-3

Unipol Bologna also won game two of their series with Cariparma Parma, picking up a 4-3 victory on Friday. A sac fly by Takahito Sato in the eighth inning broke the 3-3 tie in advantage of Fortitudo. Matteo D’Angelo got the win with three impressive innings of scoreless relief. Starters Mihai Burlea and Luca Panerati allowed three runs apiece in six innings. Adam Clerici took the loss. Daniele Malengo hit a solo homerun for Bologna.

Telemarket Rimini defeated Danesi Nettuno in their IBL opener on Friday. Three early runs were enough to put the game into the books. Nettuno didn’t score until the ninth frame, where Alessandro Maestri closed the door by getting the game-ending double play. Francisco Cruceta struck out 11 in 6 1/3 scoreless three-hit innings for the win. Santo Hernandez took the loss. Mario Chiarini drove in three runs, two with a homer in the third.
De Angelis Godo Knights – Grosseto Baseball 7-10

The De Angelis Godo Knights used a pair of four-run rallies to beat Grosseto Baseball 10-7 on Friday. Grosseto was able to cut the deficit from 3-10 to 7-10 at the end, but it was too little, too late. Danilo Sanchez and Juan Gonzalez combined for six RBI. Federico Rubboli scored thrice. Chris Grossman had a solid debut for Grosseto, going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. This was not the case for Michael Smith. He was charged with the loss after surrendering 11 hits, eight runs and two bb in five innings. Jose Pinango received the win.
