Rouen Huskies – Montpellier Barracudas 2-3, 4-1
With a split in the showdown between the Rouen Huskies and the Montpellier Barracudas, the Savigny Lions moved into first place in the French Elite League. In game one on Sunday, the Barracudas celebrated a 3-2 win. They took the lead on a sac fly by Stanton Hoover in the fifth, added two more runs in the eighth on RBI singles by Jean-Michel Mayeur and Simon Vicente. But Rouen tried to come back, plating runs in the eighth and the ninth when Joris Bert scored on a wild pitch and Luc Piquet drove in a run with a groundout. It was not enough as Bert’s line drive with two outs and the bases loaded got caught in center field.
In the second game Mike Musgrave won the pitcher’s duel against Joris Navarro and led Rouen to a 4-1 win over Montpellier. Musgrave struggled a bit in the opening period, allowing a run on three hits, but only gave up two more hits in the next seven frames to pick up the win. The Huskies took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first and added two more in the seventh. Otherwise Navarro pitched in and out of jams to frustrate Rouen’s batters, but had to settle for the loss anyway.
Paris UC – Templiers Senart 5-12, 9-16
The Templiers Senart showed their offensive potential on Sunday with a dominating sweep in Paris. With the 12-5 and 16-9 wins the Templiers secured the fourth spot in the standings of the French Elite League, qualifying for the playoffs.
Montigny Cougars – Stade Toulousain 5-12, 9-14
Stade Toulousain picked up their wins nine and ten for the season with a sweep in Montigny. 12-5 and 14-9 were the final scores, as the Cougars dropped to 2-18 in 2010. Even though the playoffs are no longer possible for Toulouse, they also are no longer in danger of relegation.
The French Elite League will be on break until August due to several tournaments including the Open de Rouen, the European Championship and the World Junior Championship.
