Rafael Garcia and Gustavo Martinez combined to allow just five hits and two walks to lead RIMINI to a 2-0 shutout on Saturday afternoon against GROSSETO. Garcia went seven innings and struck out four. Martinez closed it out. The PIRATES got in front in the bottom of the second, when Filippo Crociati was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in a run. A RBI fielder’s choice by Eddie Rios in the seventh doubled the score. James Vermilyea took the loss after 4 1/3 innings, four hits, one run and four walks.

Pitching also dominated in the night cap of the doubleheader, as Chris Di Roma and Fernando Gutierrez pitched TELEMARKET to a 1-0 shutout. Di Roma gave up three hits and three walks in seven innings. Gutierrez completed the game with four punch-outs in two perfect frames. Chris Cooper took a tough loss, allowing just one hit, one run and three bb in five-plus innings. RIMINI scored the lone run in the sixth. Jack Santora actually struck out, but reached second base on a wild pitch in combination with a throwing error by catcher Niccolo Biscontri. He then stole third and scored on Eddie Rios’ infield single back to the pitcher.
They will make up game three of the series, which was rained out on Friday evening on Sunday afternoon at 4pm CET.

NETTUNO won a slugfest against GODO 15-11 thanks to four runs in the 13th inning. Paolo Ambrosino and Juan Camilo had RBI singles in the decisive frame, Manny Alexander a RBI double. Another run scored on a balk call. Both teams had scored in the twelfth. Due to tiebreaker rules the teams started with runners on second and one out in each period from the eleventh on. Lino Connell hit a homerun, scored three times and drove in four for DE ANGELIS. Daniele Malengo forced extra innings with a RBI groundout in the eighth. Ramon Tavarez got three RBI for DANESI. Camilo reached six times and crossed the plate for three runs. Giovanni Carrara (NET) started and allowed seven hits, nine runs (7 ER) and four bb in 3 1/3 innings. James Ricchio (GOD) began on the opposing side and gave up six hits, six runs (1 ER) and two walks in three innings. Carlos Pezzullo received the win, Panagiotis Sikaras took the loss.

In the second match the bats of both teams went cold and the offenses combined for just four runs on four hits, as NETTUNO prevailed 3-1. DANESI nearly celebrated a no-hitter, as Carlos Richetti conceded just two walks in seven scoreless innings, striking out nine. However reliever Massimiliano Masin couldn’t continue the no-no bid, as Paolo Tanesini singled in the eighth with no outs. He later also lost the shutout, as Mattia Campanini drove in Felix Escalona with a sac fly in the ninth. But NETTUNO already led 3-0 after a RBI single by Abraham Nunez in the first and back-to-back homeruns by Juan Camilo and Nunez in the fifth. Matteo Galeotti issued four hits, three runs and five bb in 6 1/3 innings for the loss.
Game three of the series, which was rained out on Friday was rescheduled for Sunday morning 10.30am CET.

REGGIO EMILIA and SAN MARINO were involved in the second high-scoring affair in the IBL on Saturday. The reigning champion won 17-13. Ardley Jansen continued his hot hitting in the series with a homerun, three runs scored and two RBI. Simone Albanese drove in three. Martin Vasquez went three-for-six with three runs scored and two RBI. Each of the nine batters in the starting lineup of T&A had at least a hit and scored, seven of them also got RBIs. Taber Lee homered for PALFINGER and came around to score two more times. Pete Farina had three hits, three runs and three RBI. Jake Willie Blalock also had three hits and three runs on his belt. Luca Martignoni started for SAN MARINO and surrendered six hits, seven runs (5 ER) and three bb in four-plus innings. Pedro Orta picked up the win. Daustin Nielsen took the loss, being charged with eleven hits, nine runs (8 ER) and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.

CARIPARMA used a six-run sixth to defeat FORTITUDO 11-3 on Saturday evening in the series final. Alex Sambucci went four-for-five with a triple, a homerun and four runs scored; missing out on the cycle by a double. Davide Dallospedale also homered. Eddy Garabito scored three times for BOLOGNA. Roberto Corradini went six innings, allowing five hits, two runs (1 ER) and a walk for the win. Fabio Betto took the loss, giving up eight hits, six runs (2 ER) and two bb in 5 2/3 innings.
