Opening Weekend in Czech Baseball Extraleague was extended until Monday due to arrival of Czech National Baseball Team from Spring Training in the US. But thanks to heavy rain and storm only three games could be put into the books.
The most interesting game was played at Technika Brno field, where AVG Draci Brno played against home team. Nobody knew what happened with the 2010 roster of Technika Brno during the offseason, for example, if all imports from last year would come back. But it seems that Technika didn’t sleep during the winter and brought to Brno three good imports, which were presented during the opener. Technika started on mound with pitcher Trevor Caugney, with catcher Alex Drehak (player with experience with Frontier League) and with Billy Hess at short (played for Mannheim Tornados in the past few years). AVG Draci Brno won the close game by a score of 3-1, but Technika showed a good performance.
Another game in Brno was played at MBS between the home team MZLU Express Brno and NAVISYS Hrosi Brno. Express reinforced during the offseason with some good players from AVG Draci and dominated the Extraleague rookie 16-1. The last game which was completed during Opening Weekend was played in Ostrava. Home team Arrows Ostrava weakened after losing their three pitching stars hosted Skokani Olomouc led by new player/coach Vojtech Holicky. And Skokani had the better end, winning 9-3.
All the other scheduled games were postponed and will be made up later this year.
