Recaps: Pessac Panthers sweep Stade Toulousain in French Elite League

Pessac Panthers – Stade Toulousain 11-1 (7), 8-4

After a strong start into the 2011 season Stade Toulousain is struggling, losing both games against the promoted Pessac Panthers last weekend in the French Elite League. In game one Pessac celebrated an easy 11-1 victory thanks to the performance by J. Mullaly and S. Boyer, who combined to go 6-for-8 with two runs and six RBI. M. Charlot scored three times. T. Lakmeche had three hits and a RBI in three at-bats. P. Briones (W 2-0) pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, an unearned run and a walk in seven innings. T. Dourlens (L 1-2) gave up nine hits, eight runs (7 ER) and five bb in five innings.

In the second match the Panthers put six runs on the board between the fourth and sixth to decide the outcome in an 8-4 win. G. Bresson had three hits and three RBI. Three players scored twice. J. Mendoza crossed the plate two times for Toulouse. M. Tyler (W 1-1) issued seven hits, four runs (3 ER) and four bb in nine innings, striking out seven. L. Cespedes (L 0-2) surrendered five hits, five runs and two walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Savigny Lions – Paris UC 12-2 (7), 11-5

The Savigny Lions downed Paris UC in both ends of doubleheader on Sunday. In game one the Lions scored eight runs in the sixth for a 12-2 ten-run rule shortened win. E. Deblanc, F. Peyrichou, V. Ferreira and A. Touhari drove in two runs apiece. Y. Dal Zotto and E. Deblanc scored three times each. D. Rodriguez went deep for PUC. C. Cooper (W 3-0) struck out ten in seven innings, surrendering five hits, two runs (1 ER) and two bb. W. Musson (L 1-2) allowed seven hits, eight runs (6 ER) and two walks in five-plus innings.

In the second match Savigny decided the outcome of an 11-5 victory with seven runs in the first three frames. E. Deblanc reached base four times and hit a homerun. C. Morel and V. Ferreira picked up two RBI each. F. Mouchet doubled and scored twice for Paris. W. Musson drove in two. Mouchet also took the loss on the mound, conceding nine hits, ten runs (7 ER) and six walks in 6 2/3 innings. E. Secleppe (SAV) got the start for the Lions, giving up four hits, two runs (1 ER) and two bb in four innings. J. Dussart (W 1-0) received the win in relief.

Rouen Huskies – Templiers Senart 3-9, 11-4

The Rouen Huskies and Templiers Senart settled for the split last weekend. On Saturday afternoon E. Paturel and E. Martinez combined for four RBI and three players scored twice to lead Senart to a 9-3 victory. D. Gauthier hit a homerun for Rouen. M. Brelle-Andrade (W 4-0) allowed six hits, three runs and three bb in nine solid innings. A. Piquet (L 1-1) was charged with eight hits, seven runs and three walks in 3 2/3 innings.

In the second contest on Sunday the Huskies overcame an early 0-4 deficit thanks to seven runs in the bottom of the second en route to an 11-4 win. B. Marche doubled three times to drive in three. D. Gauthier also had three RBI. K. Atkinson and E. Martinez combined for five hits, two homeruns and four RBI for the Templiers. J. Crystal (W 1-0) struck out ten in five innings, allowing six hits, four runs and two bb. K. Perez (S 1) closed it out for his first save of the season. A. Paturel (L 1-1) conceded seven hits, eight runs and six bb in four innings.

Montpellier Barracudas – Montigny Cougars 12-0 (7), 10-0 (7)

The Montpellier Barracudas dispatched the Montigny Cougars with a pair of shutouts this weekend. On Saturday they won 12-0. G. Cros and G. Felices drove in three runs apiece. J.-M. Mayeur scored three times. J. Navarro (W 2-2) struck out a season-high ten batters in five innings, giving up just three hits and three bb. O. Berrebi (L 0-1) issued six hits, six runs (5 ER) and four walks in two-plus innings.

In game two L. Andrades (W 3-0) and G. Cros combined to strike out ten batters in seven scoreless five-hit innings in a 10-0 win. A. Cros and L. Didier scored twice. J.-M. Mayeur and J. Haras had three hits apiece. Higashiyama (L 0-2) gave up six hits, five runs (3 ER) and four bb in 3 1/3 innings.
