HSV Stealers – Bonn Capitals 12-11 (10), 3-13 (7)
The HSV Stealers and the Bonn Capitals settled for a split in their doubleheader on Saturday, the third for Hamburg on the third game day. In game one the Capitals blew a 7-0 lead to lose 11-12 on a walk-off RBI single by Brehan Murphy in the bottom of the tenth moments after Sam Boone evened the score with a RBI single. The Stealers already had tied the game in the bottom of the eighth to force extra innings. But Bonn regained the lead on a passed ball in the top of the tenth. In the second match the Capitals scored five runs in the fourth and seven in the fifth en route to a 13-3 rout. Christian Nsien drove in three. Five players crossed the plate twice. Bryce Schoening received the win, Justin Prinstein the loss.
Dortmund Wanderers – Pulheim Gophers 8-14, 3-2
The Pulheim Gophers and the Dortmund Wanderers shared wins on Saturday as well. In game one Pulheim extended its winning streak to start the season to five thanks to a 14-8 victory. After the Wanderers had erased a big deficit also due to homeruns by Aljosha Heller and Trevor Howell to take a 8-7 lead after seven innings, the Gophers scored three runs in the eighth and four in the ninth to seal the win. Daniel Lamb-Hunt highlighted the late surge with a grand slam in the ninth. The second game turned out to be the big show for Matt Kemp, who struck out 21 batters in a complete game victory, leading Dortmund to a 3-2 win. Trevor Howell decided the outcome with a solo shot in the eighth.
Solingen Alligators – Dohren Wild Farmers 5-1, 5-4
The Solingen Alligators celebrated their first sweep of the 2011 season on Sunday, defeating the winless Dohren Wild Farmers in both games. In the first match pitchers Sebastian Bernards, Andre Hughes and Jens Cornelsen combined to lead Solingen to a 5-1 victory. It was the first appearance and win for Hughes this year, who had missed the first two weeks due to a vacation. Phil Ortez, Moritz Buttgereit and Florian Goetze had RBI singles. In the second game Dohren had the better start, taking a 3-1 lead after four innings. However the Alligators came back and went up 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a sac fly by Dustin Hughes and another RBI single by Moritz Buttgereit. But the Wild Farmers tied the contest one more time in the eighth. Nonetheless Solingen ended up with the 5-4 win, as Dominik Wulf drove in Florian Goetze with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.
Untouchables Paderborn – Berlin Sluggers 18-4 (7), 19-2
The Untouchables Paderborn moved into sole possession of first place in the northern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga after two lopsided victories over the Berlin Sluggers on Sunday. In game one Paderborn scored nine runs in the first inning and 14 in the first two en route to an 18-4 victory. Matt Martin and Octavio Medina highlighted the big rallies with two-run triples. In the second match the Untouchables scored in each of the first four innings on their way to a 19-2 victory.
