Templiers Senart – Rouen Huskies 3-13, 2-10

The HUSKIES crushed SENART in both ends of their doubleheader last weekend. In game one of their doubleheader, ROUEN scored six runs in the top of the first en route to 13-3 win. Six runs in the last two frames blew the game wide open. Nicolas Dubaut had the big hit with a bases clearing triple. David Gauthier went four-for-five with three double and a triple. Robin Roy gave up three runs on five hits and three walks in eight innings for the win. He struck out seven. Steven Vesque surrendered all 13 runs (6 ER) on 14 hits and a whopping twelve base on balls. It is probably good for us that we don’t know the pitch count for the talented right-hander.

In the second match the HUSKIES again had the better start, putting three runs on the board in the first. But SENART this time was able to stay close, though ROUEN widened the gap with a five-run eighth later on and won by a final score of 10-2. Luc Piquet highlighted the rally with a triple, his third hit of the match. Alexandre Sochon picked up the win after eight solid innings, conceding four hits, two runs and three bb. Richard Teller was responsible for twelve hits, nine runs (7 ER) and five walks in eight innings to take the loss.

La Guerche Hawks – Stade Toulousain 5-3, 13-3

by Jean-Pascual Furet

The HAWKS won the first game of the weekend against STADE TOULOUSAIN by a score of 5 to 3 in 9 innings. Anthony Piquet (WP, 9 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 SO) stayed on the mound for the whole game to win against Euri Garcia-Martinez who took the loss (LP- 8 innings). LA GUERCHE led the entire game before some errors in the end of the game allowed TOULOUSE to score three runs. HAWKS’ shortstop Gaetan Lepoupon went three-for-three with a walk and a run scored. Kyle Gruver, who drove in a run, also reached four times.

For the second game Kyle Gruver (WP-7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 11 SO) went on the mound for the HAWKS. The starting pitcher for STADE TOULOUSAIN was Yanael Delpech( LP-4 IP). The guests quickly took the lead by scoring two runs in the first inning. But in the second inning LA GUERCHE plated eight runs to decide the outcome early . Errors, walks, a hit by pitch and a two-run homerun by Neftali Miller put the runs on the board. Bad weather stopped the game several times. Gaspard Fessy scored the third and last run of STADE in the fifth. The game ended by the ten-run rule in the eighth as Virgile Roux (1-3, 3 runs) scored from third base on a passed ball. We can also notice the performances of François Gaignard (three hits and a walk in five plate appearances)and Anthony Piquet (4 RBI). Mathieu Brau scored three times.

Savigny Lions – Montpellier Barracudas 6-7, 2-9

MONTPELLIER defended first place in the French Elite League with two wins in SAVIGNY. But on Monday they dropped back to second. Why? Because the French Baseball Federation ruled again, but this time in favor for STADE TOULOUSAIN. They allowed the appeal by the club from TOULOUSE in their case against MONTPELLIER’s protest of a rain-filled twin bill earlier this year. Additionally STADE picked up another win from a matchup with SAVIGNY on May 10, though the LIONS now can appeal this ruling. The federation has ruled the 2-9 loss in game two of that date a 9-0 win for reasons we don’t know yet.

Back to the real playing action on the field. In game one this weekend MONTPELLIER took a fast 5-0 lead, but SAVIGNY came back, got itself on top by a score of 6-5, before the ‘CUDAS tied the contest in the eighth and won it in the ninth. Matthew Blackmore and Laurent Andrades pitched for guests. In the second match Thomas Meley went the distance, as MONTPELLIER won 9-2.

Arvernes Clermont-Ferrand – Cougars de Montigny 8-6, 1-14 (8)

The two teams ranked in seventh and eighth in the league met in CLERMONT-FERRAND this weekend and settle for a split. In the first match James Mondesir went the distance to lead the ARVERNES to an 8-6 win. They scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to decide the outcome. In the second part of the twin bill Jean-Baptiste Couton allowed just one run on one hit in eight innings to lead MONTIGNY to an easy 14-1 victory. Seven runs in the eighth sealed the win due to ten-run rule.
