Even though the Konica Minolta Pioniers lost 0-3 to DOOR Neptunus on Sunday in the Dutch Hoofdklasse, they have clinched the fourth and last playoff spot three games before the end of the season. Mr. Cocker HCAW also suffered a defeat and cannot pass the Pioniers anymore. Leon Boyd (W), Jorian van Acker and Berry van Driel combined to allow just three hits and two walks to lead Rotterdam to the shutout. Boyd struck out eight in seven innings for the win. However they needed until the sixth and a RBI single by Jeffrey Arends to score a run. They added two more in the ninth to seal the win. Konica Minolta used six pitchers on the mound with Maarten Mulder taking the loss.

Almere Magpies – Mr. Cocker HCAW 6-3

The Almere Magpies scored five runs in the first two innings en route to a 6-3 win over Mr. Cocker HCAW. Ferd van Stekelenburg went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Wesley Bernardus and Jason Orman scored twice. Wuilliuans Vasquez had two RBI for HCAW. Joep de Wit (W) received the win in relief of Dennis Burgersdijk who lasted just 3 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, three runs and two walks. Kyle Ward (L) took the loss after 3 2/3 frames, eight hits, five runs and three bb.

Rob Cordemans (W) allowed just a fourth-inning double and a leadoff walk in the seventh in nine innings to lead L&D Amsterdam to a 3-0 shutout. He struck out eight in the complete game. He already was nearly unhittable in the European Championship in Germany, where he also received both best pitcher awards (ERA and W-L). The Pirates scored all three runs in the fifth, thanks to RBI by Rashid Gerard, Nick Urbanus and Sidney de Jong. Cordemans’ national teammate Gregory Gustina (L) struck out ten in seven innings, but also was responsible for six hits, three unearned runs and a bb.
