The promoted club VIGO is on the best way to establish themselves in the Spanish Division de Honor. On Saturday they upset SANT BOI with a 1-0 shutout, already their fourth win of the season. Ronny Malave (W 2-1) out-dueled Oscar Alvarez (L 2-1), allowing only five hits and two walks, striking out two. Alvarez (8 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 7 SO) matched him for most parts of the game, with the only blemish a seven-inning run, following a RBI double by Jose Antonio Acevedo. SANT BOI threatened to come back in the ninth, when Jose Luis Riera reached with a leadoff single and moved to second on a sac bunt, but William Domero flied out and Javier Flores grounded out to end the game.

SANT BOI fulfilled expectations in game two, winning easily by a score of 16-5. Marc Carrillo had a homerun and a double, driving in five runs through three hits.  Javier Flores went three- for-five with a homerun, two runs scored and three RBI. Rafael Rivas and Milko Jaramillo each scored three times. Michel San Gil homered for VIGO. Jose Estebin Cruz (W 3-0) allowed four hits, five runs (3 ER) and three walks in six innings. He struck out seven. Juan Jose Lopez (L 1-1) was charged with seven hits, ten runs (5 ER) and five bb in 5 2/3 innings.

Tenerife Marlins – CD Pamplona 16-1 (6), 12-2 (7)

Just a few days before the European Cup in Nettuno, Italy, the MARLINS showed that they are already in mid-season form. In game one against PAMPLONA on Saturday, they scored in five of the six innings en route to a mercy-rule shortened 16-1 victory. Richard Montiel homered and drove in four. Marco Antonio Gonzalez got four RBI, Daniel Sanchez three. Nestor Perez scored three times. Leslie Nacar (W 3-0) allowed just one run on three hits, while striking out ten in five innings. Alexis Fumero (L 0-2) took the loss, being charged with six hits, ten runs (5 ER) and four walks in four innings. He had six K’s.

TENERIFE completed the sweep with a 12-2 win in the second match. Richard Montiel had two hits, both homeruns, scored three times and drove in three. Daniel Sanchez went three-for-four with a triple, two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI. Three pitchers got some work in preparation for the European Cup with Audie Nunez (W 1-0) picking up the victory with three K’s in two innings. Daniel Celaya (L 0-1) gave up nine hits, eight runs and four bb in three-plus innings.

The FC BARCELONA celebrated a 9-0 shutout against EL LLANO on Saturday to stay undefeated in the 2009 season. Homer Baez (W 3-0) allowed one hit and five walks in seven scoreless innings for the win. He struck out six. Jason Friedman closed it out for the two-hit shutout. Jehan Machado led the offense with four hits, a run and two RBI. Felix Isasi scored twice and drove in two. Emmanuel Febles and Pau Sancho also reached home twice. Juan Javier Samboy (L 0-1) induced nine hits, five runs (3 ER) and two bb in five innings for the loss.

Game 2 of the planned doubleheader was suspended due to rain with BARCELONA leading 4-0 in the second inning.

Baseball Navarra – San Inazio Bilbao 0-6, 1-11 (7)

After four losses against the MARLINS and BARCELONA, SAN INAZIO celebrated the first victory of the season with a 6-0 shutout over NAVARRA. Fidel Mane (W 1-0) struck out seven in eight innings to lead his team to the premiere win. He allowed just three hits and a walk. Willy Guedez completed the four-hitter with a scoreless ninth. The offense started off fast with two runs in the top of the first, thanks to a two-run double by Rene Reyes. They added four insurance runs in the last two periods. Kelvim Marianucci went two-for-five with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI. Reyes finished with three RBI. Juan Jose Lopez (L 0-2) gave up four hits, four runs (3 ER) and four bb in 7 1/3 innings for the loss.

BILBAO also won the second game against NAVARRA, scoring nine runs between the second and fourth frame en route to an 11-1 victory in seven innings. Franklin Juan Tua went four-for-four with three runs scored and two RBI. Rene Reyes drove in three. Dirimo Chavez scored twice. Alberto Magallon (W 1-1) allowed only four hits, a run and a walk in five innings of solid work. He struck out two. Diego Armando Perez (L 0-2) induced eight hits, six runs (5 ER) and three bb in three innings to take the loss.

Astros Valencia – CB Viladecans 2-12 (7)

VILADECANS defeated the ASTROS 12-2 on Saturday to move into fifth place of the standings with a 3-2 record. Oscar Angulo led the offense outburst with two homeruns and four RBI. Miguel Catalan also drove in four, highlighted by a big bases clearing double in the second period, which put CB 3-0 ahead. Five players scored twice. Alberto Ortia had three hits for the ASTROS. Delio Miguel Martinez (W 1-0) allowed four hits, an unearned run and three walks in five innings, striking out seven. Elvis Polanco (L 0-1) took the loss after going the distance, giving up eleven hits, twelve runs (11 ER) and five bb.

Game 2 of the twin bill, scheduled for Sunday, was cancelled due to rain.
