Rafael Garcia struck out eight in eight solid innings to lead RIMINI to a 3-1 win over reigning IBL champion SAN MARINO. He allowed just one run on five hits and two walks, throwing 73 of his 104 pitches for strikes. T&A had taken a fast 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a solo shot by Carlos Duran. But the PIRATES answered right away. They tied the score in the second on a RBI fielder’s choice by Phil LoCascio. One frame later they were up in front, when Mario Chiarini, who had reached on an error, scored through another fielder’s choice. This time by Eddie Rios. Chiarini singled home Lorenzo Avagnina in the ninth for the third run. Horacio Estrada took the loss after six innings, five hits, two runs (1 ER) and two bb. Luis Ramirez impressed again with six punch-outs in three innings of relief. However the run by Avagnina was the first against him this year.

REGGIO EMILIA already led 4-1, when they put six runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh to blow the game wide open against BOLOGNA. Mattia Reginato highlighted the rally with a three-run homerun. Taber Lee provided the fast 3-0 advantage in the second with a bases clearing double down the right field line. Jack Blalock scored twice. Abe Alvarez picked up the win with 6 1/3 solid innings, allowing just one run on eight hits, striking out three. He out-dueled FORTITUDO’s Jesus Matos, who struck out ten in six innings, but had to take the loss anyway. He surrendered four hits, four runs (1 ER) and three walks. Major League experienced reliever Eddy Rodriguez got crushed afterwards.
