The FC Barcelona used the makeup date of the rained out doubleheader in Vigo to reduce the deficit in the Spanish Division de Honor standings to a single game. The team of manager Aldo Tarife beat Halcones in both games this weekend, improving to 16-2 for the season.
In game one on Saturday Barcelona scored 13 runs between the fifth and the seventh to earn a 16-3 win in seven innings. Jorge Santana and Albert Diaz combined for eight RBI. Jason Friedman (W 4-1) not only allowed seven hits, three runs and a walk in six innings on the mound, but also went 3-for-4 with a double, four runs scored and two RBI at the plate. He struck out seven. Ronny Materano (L 0-1) issued seven hits, eight runs (7 ER) and nine bb in five innings.
Game 2:

Pedro Pablo Belmonte (W 6-1) and Oscar Gimenez combined to lead Barcelona to an 8-0 shutout in game two on Sunday. Belmonte pitched six innings, allowing just five hits and a walk, while striking out three. Gimenez picked up his second save of the season after retiring all nine batters he faced, five on strikeouts. Emmanuel Febles and Jesus Golindano scored twice. Diego Corvalan (L 0-5) surrendered five hits, four runs and four bb in four innings to take the loss.
Both teams will meet again next weekend, when the Spanish Division de Honor starts into the second half of the season.
